usage of nolog in sqlplus

We can type sqlplus /nolog command which will land in SQL prompt. This is used to prevent username and password at first stage (i.e) this is not a real database connection but just an invocation of sql prompt. To establish real connection to the database, issue connect command followed by username, password, oracle_sid values to connect to the database.
We can then use connect command with username and password to log onto the database

set oracle_sid=value
SQL> show user
USER is “”
SQL> connect sys/password as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> show user
USER is “SYS”
Now the user SYS is connected and logged into the database system
The second version of above usage is making use of oracle_sid value inside sql prompt rather than outside
SQL> show user
USER is “”
SQL> connect sys/password@ORACLE_SID as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> show user
USER is “SYS”
Now the user SYS is connected and logged into the database system
